About shadow

Parliamo sempre di luce : che cos'è, come e quanta utilizzarne, luce tecnologica, decorativa, urbana,ma.. che cos'è l'ombra? Secondo Nicola di Lyra nella sua "Biblia sacra cum glossis" del 1545, l'ombra non è altro che :" sed tantum privatio lucis ex interpositione corporis", cioè una semplice privazione di luce a causa dell'interposizione di un corpo.Ma Platone prima di lui,nel suo mito della caverna, ed anche Plinio considerarono l'ombra in modo totalmente diverso. Il primo come l'immagine proiettata sul muro della caverna di un altro mondo tutto da scoprire ( il mondo della conoscenza) e Plinio spiega con una "fabula" la nascita della pittura ed anche della scultura, in quanto poi l'immagine disegnata verrà anche riempita : l 'ombra dell'amato,dell'altro da sè, tratteggiata dalla fanciulla sul muro, per ricordarlo, perché partito o morto.

Ecco che allora questa bella foto rende bene i concetti dei classici :il nostro corpo fisico invecchia, ma l'ombra proiettata dal nostro corpo rimane inalterata, altro da noi,ciò che davvero siamo e per sempre resteremo. La nostra energia rientrerà in quella cosmica sino alla fine di tutto.

We always talk about light: what is it? how and how much to be used?We talk about light technology, decorative, urban  lighting,but .. What is the shadow? According to Nicholas of Lyra in his "Biblia sacra cum glossis" in 1545, the shadow is nothing but: " sed tantum privatio lucis ex interpositione corporis", that is to say a simple deprivation of light due to the interposition of a body.

But Plato, before him, in his myth of the cave, and Pliny also, considered the shadow in a different way. The first, as the image projected on the wall of the cave of another world to be discovered (the world of knowledge) and Pliny explained  the birth of painting and sculpture as well, since then the drawn image would also be filled, by telling a "fabula": the shadow of the beloved, the other, dashed on the wall by the girl ,to remember him, because of his departure or death. This beautiful picture ,then,makes the concepts of the classics: our physical body decays, but the shadow, cast by the body,will remain the same, other than us, what we really are and forever will be. Our energy will return to the cosmos at the end of everything.
