The Light Giant

This is an extremely good example of light art : "No Shadow" series - light sculpture. By the artist and designer Makoto Tojiki who uses light as his primary medium of expression.

(DE)LIGHT

A couple of days back, doctor asked me :" what's your job?" I replied I have been busy with lighting for the last twenty years and she commented back : " Oh, How interesting! You bring LIGHT to the darker sides of people !" Well,... I have not fully discovered  the real meaning of my life yet,but..yes, that would be one of my aims ! So, when I received this wonderful "light art" image from my dear friend Daniela, I immediately thought to link  together the two things : my main aim then will be bringing (DE)LIGHT ! ;)

Roll & Hill : focus on american industrial craftmanship

Halo by Paul Loebach - Produced by Roll & Hill
This chandelier, designed by Paul Loebach, produced by Roll & Hill reminds me of an upside down crinoline, a rigid skirt-shaped structure of steel designed in France by 1850 to support the skirts of a woman's dress into the required shape. Roll & Hill main aim is bringing the focus back to American industrial craftmanship.
From what had the young designer been inspired?

Bustle cage crinoline, c. 1868, Victoria and Albert Museum

Mushroom Lamps

A sculpture? Dollies-scale tiny tablelamps ? Prototypes? Whatever they are, they immediately inspire a "green feeling"..A perfect combination of nature and classical lighting. Love it!

Scultura? Lampade da tavolo in scala bambolare ? Prototipi?

I am not particularly fond of this hot artistic provocations.I have my own boundaries. But Art doesn't and it must be like that, else Art would lose its own final aim.

Ho i miei limiti.

Park life: High Line in New York is one of the Best Examples.

The High Line section 3 – Interim walkway at the Western Rail Yards James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro. 2012 Courtesy City of New York and Friends of the High Line
I am posting an abstract from an article, written by Alyn Griffiths from London published in Architonic Newsletter. You can read the whole article here and see the marvellous projects as well.
I have chosen the passage where he talks about High Line developments in New York city simply because I was there last year and I found the place really amazing : Nature incapsulated in the urban public space and places showing the esprit of pure design where you can sit and relax, surronded by different styles of typical american buildings. But let's talk the author : "Finding new spaces in towns and cities that can be turned into communal parks is extremely difficult with every available plot in such high demand and so, as with many other aspects of urban development, the reuse or re-appropriation of existing land has become a popular alternative. The shining example of this practice is New York’s hugely popular High Line development, which has converted a disused freight rail line elevated above the streets of Manhattan into a popular park and walkway. Designs were recently unveiled for the third and final section of the High Line, which will wrap around the Hudson Yards, an active train yard for Long Island Rail Road.Their collaboration with planting designer Piet Oudolf on the initial two sections of the High Line resulted in a variety of environments along the rail line’s route, ranging from areas of grassland to sun decks with landscaped water features and a raised walkway that lifts visitors into the canopy of trees planted on the bed of the structure below. The proposal for Section 3 has been carefully coordinated with an ongoing development of the Hudson Yards, which will ultimately host more than 12 million square feet of offices, residential, retail and cultural venues. The design includes a public plaza where the park crosses 11th Avenue at West 30th Street, with large planted beds interspersed with areas of seating and a play area for kids created by covering the original structural beams and girders with a thick and colourful rubber coating. The final section of the High Line is due to open in early 2014 and will complete the most ambitious and significant urban park of the 21st Century. "

High Lane New York - August,2011
