Serge Mouille : spider ceiling lamp

  

I came to know about Serge Mouille , a famous french designer / artisan thanks to an american friend and estimator of this artist. At first sight I was totally impressed by the modernity and plainness of his SPIDER production ( made in  the early '50s) together with its fabulous functionality to widely enlighten but meanwhile focus various points in the same place. What then impressed me once again is the story told that Serge Mouille  researched and developed lighting designs in reaction to the too complicated Italian designs that flooded the 1950’s market.

Sono venuta a conoscenza di un famoso designer /artigiano francese Serge Mouille grazie ad un amico americano ed estimatore di questo artista. A prima vista sono stata totalmente colpita dalla modernità, dalla linearità della sua produzione denominata SPIDER ( ragno), fatta all'inizio degli anni '50 e dalla sua favolosa funzionalità per illuminare ampiamente ma allo stesso tempo focalizzare la luce nei vari punti di uno stesso ambiente. Ciò che mi ha ulteriormente colpito é la storia che si racconta sul Mouille, al quale fu richiesto di ricercare e sviluppare dei corpi illuminanti in controtendenza al design italiano un po' "ridondante" presente massicciamente sul mercato negli anni '50.

Sabine Seymour 's new book "Functional Aesthetics: Visions In Fashionable Technology" immediately gives a clear view that textile can be interfaced .In Seymour's second book on the subject, she defines fashionable wearables as "designed garments, accessories or jewelry that combine aesthetics and style with functional technology." There are many examples of how LED technology has already been and still be used for the above purposes.

Il nuovo libro di Sabine Seymour "Functional Aesthetics: Visions In Fashionable Technology" dà subito una visione chiara di come i tessuti possano essere interfacciati. Nel secondo libro di Seymour su questo argomento, ella stessa definisce ciò che è di moda come " capi disegnati, accessori o gioielli che coniugano estetica e stile con la tecnologia funzionale" .Ci sono molti esempi di come i LED siano già stati e vengano tuttora utilizzati per questi propositi.

Cute Circuit  has its Galaxy Dress on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. This dazzling dress features 24,000 LEDs.

LumiGram has recently designed a collection of illuminated, sexy tops. LumiGram uses Italian’s Luminex unique light emitting fabric which has as its light element fiber optics woven into conventional textiles.

Vitrahaus by Herzog & de Meuron has opened in these last few months and it's half way between a showroom, a museum and a shop.Inside pieces by Charles Eames,Verner Panton and other classical designers.

Alle porte di Basilea,mecca dell'arte contemporanea, si trova la cittadina tedesca Weil am Rhein,altro luogo di grande interesse per gli amanti dell'arte e del design.Da qualche mese c'é anche il nuovo Vitrahaus di Herzog &  de Meuron, una via di mezzo tra showroom,museo e punto vendita. All'interno opere di  Charles Eames,Verner Panton e altri classici del design.

Le Grand Monde

Hot Spot is a huge globe with all the continents outlined in red neon that makes a characteristic buzzing sound. According to the artist, it is a reflection of the fact that confrontation is not restricted to certain parts of the world, but pertains to all of it. Passion is what this red globe transfer immediately to me.

Hot Spot é un enorme globo con tutti i continenti delineati con un neon rosso che emette un caratteristico brusio. Secondo l'artista sta a significare che il confronto non é ristretto a certe parti del mondo ma riguarda tutti. Ciò che questo globo rosso mi trasmette all'istante é passione.

Accese le vetrate del Duomo di Milano

Dopo 600 anni il Duomo di Milano riaccende le proprie luci. E lo fa illuminando le vetrate che diventano così simbolo di trasparenza cromatica ed energia.E' il primo duomo al mondo a proporre tale soluzione luminosa. Grazie a 68 lampade a basso impatto ambientale i finestroni artistici splenderanno per tutto il periodo delle feste.

After 600 years the Cathedral in Milano illuminates again. It does so enlighting the stained glass windows which become then a symbol of chromatic transparency and energy. It's the first Cathedral worldwide to propose such a solution. Thanks to 68 energy saving lighting fixtures, the artistic windows will shine during Christmas holidays.
