Ango Lighting Design

I already posted a similar COCOON floor lamp a few weeks ago ( see my post The year of the Yong) : a prototype made in sylicon by an asian student.This time, once again, the Cocoon appears at the trade fair  Maison&Objet in Paris. Apart from its shape,concept and material's development  about which Isabelle Doal talks in detail, what impresses me is the fact that two so different persons - a student and a famous designer - have thought about a COCOON as a very innovative shape! The cocoon is the symbol of a new life and at the same time of the return to extreme simplicity. What I also find amazing is that both are of asiatic origins :  influenced by their own eastern traditions, a protest against the globalization and westernization of their too crowded asian cities or willing to return to a much simpler and more natural life?

Ho già scritto qualche settimana fa un post su una lampada da terra a forma di bozzolo ( si veda il mio articolo The Year of the Yong) : un prototipo in silicone, fatto da uno studente. Ancora una volta la forma a bozzolo riappare durante la fiera Maison&Objet a Parigi. A parte la sua forma, il concetto e lo sviluppo dei materiali, sui quali Isabelle Doal ci dà ampiamente delucidazioni,ciò che mi ha colpito é il fatto che due persone così differenti - uno studente ed un designer - abbiano entrambi pensato al bozzolo come ad una forma innovativa! Il bozzolo é simbolo di nuova vita ed allo stesso tempo di un ritorno ad una estrema semplicità. Ciò che trovo oltremodo sorprendente é che entrambi sono di origine asiatica : influenzati dalle loro tradizioni orientali, una protesta contro la globalizzazione e occidentalizzazione delle loro caotiche città asiatiche o desiderio di ritornare ad una vita più semplice e naturale?

The year of the YONG

Wei- Chih Chu's prototype COCOON

A couple of days ago I received the prototype's pic of a floor lamp, designed by my friend Wei-Chih Chu, a young student , whom I have already spoken about in a previous post and whose creativity is amazing and goes beyond the expectations! Meanwhile I was receiving the ad of SFORZIN ILLUMINAZIONE latest lighting fixture...if you look and compare them, don't you find any resemblance? Both don't know each other..so..if we want to find a hidden meaning on this common shape, we could certainly say that both want to represent a NEW BORN, new expectations, new hopes, new concepts! An ERA change.!

Actually Wei-Chih Chu called his creation YONG, whose meaning is Cocoon, breeding the new life. And a new life means light or brightness.

The prototype has been made of silicone and the SFORZIN ILLUMINAZIONE lamp is made of  WHITE OPAL GLASS.

SFORZIN ILLUMINAZIONE

Qualche giorno fa ho ricevuto la foto di un prototipo di lampada da terra, disegnata dal mio amico Wei- Chih Chu, un giovane studente del quale ho già parlato in un post precedente, dalla creatività soprendente e che va oltre le aspettative.Nel frattempo ricevevo la pubblicità di una nuova lampada di SFORZIN ILLUMINAZIONE...se le guardate e le paragonate..non ci vedete delle somiglianze? Entrambi non si conoscono..se vogliamo dare un significato a questa forma comune, potremmo certo dire che entrambi hanno cercato di dare l'idea del NUOVO NATO, di nuove aspettative, nuove speranze, nuovi concetti! Un cambiamento di era! 

E infatti Wei- Chiu Chu ha chiamato la sua opera YONG, il cui significato é BOZZOLO, che genera nuova vita. Nuova vita vuol dire luce o luminosità. Il prototipo é stato fatto in silicone, la lampada di SFORZIN ILLUMINAZIONE in vetro opaco bianco.
