The future of light is in the laser...or back to the candle ?

The new Andrei Duman Gallery in the Westfield Topanga outside Los Angeles with Soraa LED lights. (Photo: Andrei Duman)

Last May I attended an interesting meeting, held in Como city, with a special guest, Mr.Nakamura, co-founder of SORAA company in the United States. Mr.Nakamura was an early user of the blue light in the LED, giving white light ,when combined with other colors. Nevertheless, Mr.Nakamura and his staff are aware of some damage that, over time, the blue light in the LED may cause in the human eye. For this reason, they are testing the use of the violet light in LED as a possible alternative, judging it  most suitable for the well-being of the human eye and for obtaining excellent results especially in museums and architectural applications. Mr.Nakamura's opinion, supported also by other researchers, such as Dr. Wunsch, and by other alternative technologies to LED, is that the more the color rendering of artificial light is close to natural sunlight (of 100 ra), better it is for the well-being of the human eye and for a correct perception of colors.
Moreover, according to Mr.Nakamura, the future of artificial light is in the laser..stay tuned!

Giovanni Segantini - Il pittore della Luce

Giovanni Segantini - Mezzogiorno sulle Alpi -

I will start a process of analysis on the study of light made by some well-known artists.  Giovanni Segantini, pointillist painter, is the first one. Between the end of XIX century  and beginning of XX century  Divisionists adopt a new painting technique inspired by the most advanced scientific research, based on the optical mixture of colors and no more physical. It is the "Light Revolution". On their research, starting from 1909, an artistic avant-garde movement such as Futurism invented by Tommaso Marinetti  began, capable of expressing the dynamism of modern life and progress. Specifically, when Giovanni Segantini moved to Savognino, he began his third artistic period, deeply impressed by the clear light of the mountain landscape, thereby developing the pointillist technique. He stayed there for eight years and found (...) "the light that harmonizes and is in constant harmony with  the high mountains." Segantini constantly reiterated that the phenomenon of light could be made only by painting color as pure as possible. What chiefly interested him were not deductions of natural science, but the search for natural light. In addition to the intense phenomenon of daylight Segantini  studied the effects that the lanterns produce in dark rooms. For example, in the painting The two mothers, with the use of only pure colors, he tried to make the dim light of a stable lantern, achieving the final effect of a room immersed in a warm light.

QL si veste di nuovo ! QL new look !

QL Company introduced  in 2011  the new version of  the dimmable QL generator.

For celebrating the 25th anniversary of their induction lighting system, QL Company completely reprojected the QL induction lamp. With this further  innovation the products are even more robust.  The QL lamp ( bulb) and power coupler have been redesigned, so that thermal management inside fixtures is easier, as this is crucial to guarantee the ultra long life of the QL system.

In the last five years many projects have been supplied with QL induction lighting systems. Especially the comfortable and omni directional lighting aspects are reasons to choose induction for both outdoor and indoor new installations and relamping.

Edison shape !

È stata pensata e rielaborata in tantissime varianti.

I found this great image ! The bulb shape, the well known Edison, is always attractive ! It has been produced and renewed in many different ways. It's very simple but it can help decorate and enlighten, giving the room a warm and cosy atmosphere. I like this total metal version : stilish, decorative, of good impact.

The Light - The Vision of a Bright Man

During the opening of "The Light" The vision of a bright man ", a temporary show to celebrate Joe Colombo, with the new re-edition of one of his projects, produced by Oluce, I could see that the effect of simple shapes like a light globe is a timeless beauty. Inside the spaces of Understate, the company presents "the Globe", produced in 1964. Originally it was made as a table lamp and as a suspension but now also available as a wall sconce. The lamp is a transparent ball of blown glass and contains a cylindrical metal reflector.

The installation will be visible at Understate from October 23 until November 30.
